I was surprised how much better the heat distribution is with the coal bed—the air gap underneath really helps the coals burn evenly. No more fiddling with lopsided hot spots during dinner.

It fits snugly inside our fireplace and the steel feels solid enough to last years. The raised bed really does spread the heat evenly, which made grilling over coals way more consistent than I expected.

The steel is surprisingly sturdy for its size, and it fits perfectly inside the fireplace to bring the coals up to a nice cooking height. I used it with lump charcoal the other night and the even heat distribution made grilling chicken a breeze, no hot spots at all.
