I use this coal bed to grill chicken thighs over the fire, and the sturdy steel holds up perfectly to high heat. The elevated design gets the coals just the right height for even cooking without scorching. Very happy with how it transforms the fireplace setup.

It took some trial to get the coals evenly spaced on the elevated steel grate, but once I did, it distributed heat perfectly for grilling across the whole surface.

Finally, a way to get a proper sear on steaks without dirtying a separate grill. The raised grate design really lets the charcoal breathe and keeps the ash below the cooking zone. Perfect for slow-smoking a small pork shoulder too.
